Mohamed is a lecturer, research assistant and a PhD candidate in the civil systems department at the TU Berlin. He is mainly responsible for the teaching of modules in the civil systems engineering master’s  program. His research interests are in the areas of Complex Systems Engineering, Smart Cities, Digital Twins, Infrastructure Resilience, Hazard Mitigation and Disaster Management.
Mohamed received his Master’s from Cambridge University where he was a post-graduate student at the Center of Engineering for Sustainable Development  and received a fully funded scholarship from Cambridge Trust  and BP  of around £75,000. In Cambridge, he worked on multiple research studies and projects, such as the potential and pitfalls of applying Digital Twins to infrastructure resilience, taking water and energy systems as case studies; how sensors can improve the water service provision in Nepal; the challenges and opportunities to enhance the sustainable development of the UK automotive industry with new steps of what the UK government can do; and organisational change towards sustainability taking BIM as an example to be integrated into some construction companies in Egypt. Also, he worked with I-teams  Cambridge, which is adapted from MIT i-teams program  on innovative ideas for new energy sources (Hydrogen production by photoreforming). He also received a bachelors in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Benha University in Egypt and graduated among the top 1%.
Mohamed has also a range of work experience. For example, he worked as a sustainable building consultant for Mesh energy  (UK), where he developed a decision-making tool by which they can effectively decide on the best sustainable design option. Also, he was a construction site engineer as a subcontractor with SIEMENS  Egypt for a substation in New Cairo. This is in addition to around 3 years of working with GPS, Total station and hydrographic survey data collection and processing for multiple projects in Egypt. Mohamed has also more than 8 years of voluntary work towards achieving sustainable development goals, such as teaching high school and undergraduate students; and delivering clean water and sanitation to the underprivileged communities in upper Egypt.
